Lessons are held either:

in the Balance Creative studio, located in Vaucluse, or
-
in your home (eastern suburbs), or
-
at another agreed location - e.g. school, work, creative space, etc.
Classes are subject to availability. As class locations may vary from student to student, please check with me when scheduling your lesson.

TO PREPARE?
5 YRS TO ADULTS
Lessons are usually 1 hour or at least a minimum of 45 minutes in order to maximise learning benefits. This takes into consideration time for:

students to settle into the lesson
-
teachable moments
-
students to digest and embody new information
-
instructional scaffolding
-
consolidating learning through different activities (e.g. rhythm, movement, aural / listening, oral, theory, musical interpretation, etc).
Longer lessons are also available.
4 YRS OR YOUNGER
Please contact me to discuss appropriate lesson duration.
NEW INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS
Previous experience is not essential / assumed. Lessons are flexible and tailored to each student's level.
NEW GROUP STUDENTS
Please contact me to discuss your current level, so that you can be placed into an appropriate class.
ALL CURRENT STUDENTS
I teach music through watering joy. The more you enjoy playing, the more you will practise. The more you practise, the more you will learn and enjoy playing. It is important that you practise after each lesson, so I encourage and support you to nurture what you enjoy in your music-making.
Aim to practise a basic minimum of 15 min a day. Ideally I recommend practice sessions be 20 min - 1 hr a day or longer if you can, provided that you are enjoying and developing your creativity / passion / interest. It is better that you practise for a shorter duration every day rather than for long periods once or twice a week.

INDIVIDUAL IN STUDIO: as above

GROUP: $11/hr for each additional student

MULTIPLE SESSION PASSES:

10 hr pass valid from date of first session for 10 weeks

30-50 hr pass valid from date of first session for 26 weeks

Renewals must be booked at least 3 weeks in advance to allow for appropriate session planning

Full payment of multiple session pass or casual session is required UPON BOOKING by cash or bank transfer (EFT). If paying by bank transfer, please email or SMS confirmation of bank transfer (EFT) or deposit to confirm your booking.

Any lessons postponed with adequate notice need to be rescheduled before pass expires.

Please note all sessions are non-refundable but can be transferred to another student, once only.

HOW
LEARNING MATERIALS
Students are responsible for bringing their own learning materials including, but not limited to:
-
lesson notes in a dedicated music folder (A4 display folder with plastic sleeves, available from any newsagent)
-
sheet music (books or any loose sheets in your music folder)
-
any audio/visual recordings you are interested in working with or have been requested to bring to class, e.g. digital recordings on charged devices ready at hand, etc.
A resource library is available for reference. I have provided some links here to free online resources. Please contact me if you need any resources.
HOW
CANCELLATION POLICY
Minimum 48 hours' notice is required if you wish to cancel, reschedule or shorten lesson length, otherwise the booked lesson will be forfeited, except in case of sickness.
If 48 hours' notice cannot be given due to student sickness, a make-up lesson can be rescheduled within 4 weeks, subject to the teacher's availability. Otherwise, the missed lesson will be forfeited.
Rescheduling and cancellations within 48 hours of the confirmed lesson time is best notified by phoning and speaking to me directly.
